Our Love of Dogs

We unabashedly love dogs and believe they aren’t just pets but family members. We provide our dogs with acres of land on which they can run and play and give individual attention and affection to each one every day.

Every planned litter is a dream and hope for the future. It is also gratifying. Not only to watch puppies play and grow—which we can do for hours—but to share with others who appreciate these fantastic animals. We have met wonderful people we would never have known if it were not for our dogs. And we have seen how beautiful and essential the bond between humans and dogs can be when sharing the best and darkest times. These aren’t just dogs; they are companions accompanying us for part of our life’s path—they are soul friends.

Our Love of Labradors

It all started with Shiloh and Duke. Shiloh was our first Labrador, gorgeous, sweet, and glossy black. She was incredibly devoted and an excellent companion, and especially attached to Bonnie. Whenever Bonnie would leave the house, Shiloh would jump up on the chair and stare out the window all day, waiting for her. If Shiloh had access to the outside that day, she would go down to our gate and lie there for hours waiting for Bonnie to come home. Shiloh’s behavior encouraged Bonnie to give up her commute to Bakersfield and work from home. We also decided to get Shiloh, a companion, and located a gorgeous yellow Lab that we named Duke. Duke became a best friend to our son, Jeff. They always hung out together, and Jeff taught Duke to sit, lie, shake hands, and high-five!  Labs are lovely for teenagers needing a special friend, and Duke was always there for Jeff. They had an incredible bond.

After getting to know these two wonderful Labradors, we were hooked on the breed and dedicated ourselves wholeheartedly to producing the finest Labradors possible. Now here we are, so many years later, loving every day surrounded by the most beautiful, affectionate, brilliant dogs we’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Life is Good.

Our American Dream

We have some property in Sagle, Idaho—full of pine trees, wildlife, and great fishing—about 50 miles south of the Canadian border, 50 miles west of Montana, and 50 miles east of Washington. When we retire, this is our American dream—to be surrounded by astounding beauty and space, with plenty of room where our dogs and us can hang out and live a good, wholesome life together.

It was important to us to find a property with a lake on it for our Labradors, a place where they can swim! We currently go there in our trailer twice or thrice a year and bring three or four dogs each time. We don’t have a home there yet, but we hope to begin building one in about five years.

Our Love of Quality

Our Labrador retrievers are registered with the AKC from DNA-tested lineage, which guarantees the careful research we put into our breeding program. When selecting our foundation dogs, we look into several generations of their pedigree, searching for health clearances and conformation awards—meaning the dogs are excellent for breeding. The parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents must have high ratings to adhere to our standards, as we do not breed inferior dogs. We can use these ratings as a tool to help select the healthiest dogs and therefore reduce the occurrence of genetic diseases, such as hip dysplasia, common in many large breeds.

The purpose of using pedigrees, health tests, recognized breed standards, and the collective knowledge and experience of other breeders is to minimize the risks and maximize the odds of success—healthy puppies with sound temperaments and structure that are not only excellent representatives of the breed but much more likely to live rich and rewarding lives in loving, forever homes.
